     The Saco Bay Gardening Club was founded in 2001 by a group of local residents to promote and inspire home gardening. The SBGC provides a forum for area residents to share information, activities, experience, and materials related to gardening.

     Our mission also includes volunteer work and charitable contributions  to gardening related causes in order to beautify the community. Growing every year, SBGC membership encompasses all age groups, ranging from beginners looking for information on starting their first garden to master gardeners happy to share their knowledge. Year round or part-time residents from Saco, Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach and surrounding areas are welcome to join.

     The SBGC meets the first Thursday of each month in the Deering Room at Dyer Library in Saco at 6:00pm unless otherwise noted. Meeting agendas include guest speakers presenting a gardening related topic, roundtable discussions, seasonal craft workshops, plant swaps, tours of members' gardens, and an evening of social networking. During the summer months, most meetings are held outdoors at one of our members' gardens and we also schedule activities between meetings such as BBQ's and Potluck parties. Annual membership cost is $10.00 per individual or $15.00 per family.

Another Great Year Celebrated At Annual SBGC Holiday Party...

An absolutely wonderful time was had by all as our ever-growing family of ordinary and extraordinary gardeners gatherered this year to celebrate the holidays and usher in the New Year. The last few months have been busy putting our gardens to bed with gleeful anticipation for the next growing season. Many thanks to our hosts John & Suzanne Ropes.

He Knows No Winter
He knows no winter, he who loves the soil,
For, stormy days, when he is free from toil,
He plans his summer crops, selects his seeds
From bright-paged catalogues for garden needs.
When looking out upon frost-silvered fields,
He visualizes autumn's golden yields;
He sees in snow and sleet and icy rain
Precious moisture for his early grain;
He hears spring-heralds in the storm's turmoil
He knows no winter, he who loves the soil.-SUDIE STUART HAGER
